SUMMER READING PROGRAMS

Brownsburg Public Library

  • Adventure Begins at your Library this summer! Sign up for the summer reading challenge at Brownsburg
    Public Library, and earn prizes for reading! The library will also be offering free programming for all ages.
    With weekly large family events, this is one summer you won’t want to miss out on! Library cards are not
    necessary to participate but we’re happy to help get you one of those too!

  • Plainfield Public Library
    Teen Kickoff Party: Tuesday, May 28, from 12-2pm
    Teens going into grades 6 – 12 are invited to join us as we kickoff for Summer Reading Club! This year’s
    theme is “Adventure Begins At Your Library.”
    Children’s Kickoff Party: Tuesday, May 28, from 4:30-6:30p
    Grab your passport and set off on a Summer Reading Club adventure! Children birth – 5th grade can sign
    up, pick up reading logs, enjoy activities, and more!
    Each age range has a reading log to track participation in SRC. Pick one up at the library, beginning May
    28! Turn in reading logs to earn prizes and raffle tickets throughout the summer. Early Literacy, Children,
    and Teen earn prizes and raffle tickets as they go. Once you complete the reading log, choose a FREE
    book to keep! Adults earn raffle tickets as they go and can pick out a FREE book at registration. Once
    you complete the reading log, enter a grand raffle for a special gift card! Attend library programs to earn
    extra raffle tickets throughout the summer.
    • Early Literacy (babies-pre-reader): Track your time reading, writing, singing, talking, and playing and
    earn a raffle ticket for every 5 activities completed.
    • Child (independent reader-5th grade): Track your reading and earn 3 raffle tickets for every 3 hours
    of reading, being read to, or listening to audiobooks.Teen (Grades 6-12): Track your time reading and earn raffle tickets and prizes for every 5 hours
    spent reading this summer. Teens complete SRC when they read 20 hours.
  • Avon Public Library
    Summer Reading Party: June 3rd at 4pm
    Enjoy a bubble party, with ice cream and lots of animals from Misty Eyes! Register for summer reading
    starting June 2nd! Read to earn prizes like Library Bucks, candy, free books, and more!

 

EMPOLYMENT SERVICES

WorkOne– For individuals looking for employment or developing a career plan, WorkOne is a key source for information, job referrals, placement assistance, and other services.  

They provide Workshops of resume building and interviewing are every thursday at the MADE building in Plainfield. 

WorkOne can also offer skill building and further training and education.

Damar Health Services has providers for adults and children who have Medicaid or private insurance. They are available for scheduled appointments for mental or physical health.

HENDRICKS COUNTY UTILITY ASSISTANCE

Energy Assistance Program:
Provides a one-time annual benefit that can assist low-income Hoosiers with the high cost of home energy and can help those who are about to get disconnected.
Opportunity to apply for assistance will open 8am Eastern Time October 2, 2023, through May 20, 2024 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time.

The EAP disconnection moratorium has ended as of March 15th

Section 8 is available to income-eligible individuals and families and exists to assist with rent payments to provide decent, affordable, sanitary, and safe housing for persons with low incomes.
The Section 8 program is not emergency housing assistance and your waiting time for assistance may exceed 24 months.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Here at Family Promise of Hendricks County we are focused on helping people with domestic violence.  There are many forms of domestic violence, not just physical but emotional, sexual and financial. It can happen to any of us and there is no age discrimination. If you are experiencing any type of domestic violence, please call or come into the center and we will be here to help you through it all. It is not easy to leave your home, but your safety is our main concern. One of our domestic Violence Advocates will help you figure out the steps to take to make sure you and your children are in a safe environment. No one deserves to be mistreated or abused.

  1. Do you feel safe in your current environment?
  2. Do you feel safe in your current relationship?
  3. Do you feel safe regarding your previous relationship?
  4. Is your current situation caused by someone hurting you physically or emotionally?

If you do not feel safe, please take the quiz below to determine if you are in high danger.

  1. Has he/she ever used a weapon against you or threatened your with a weapon?
  2. Has he/she threatened to kill you or your children?
  3. Do you think he/she might try to kill you?
  4. Does he/she have a gun or easy access to a gun?
  5. Has he/she ever tried to choke you?
  6. Is violently or constantly jealous or controls most your daily activities?
  7. Have you left him/her or separated after living together or being married?
  8. Is he/she unemployed?
  9. Has he/she ever tried to kill himself/herself?
  10. Do you have a child that he/she knows is not his/hers?
  11. Does he/she follow or spy on you? Leave threatening messages?   

If you answered “yes” to questions 1-3 or at least four “yes” responses to questions 4-11, you are in high danger of assault. People in similar situations have been killed. Pease reach out to us for help!

 INDIANA EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE (ERA)

Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA)

Helps renter households with rent and utility assistance. This includes help with paying rent up to 18 months of current and past­ due rent. This assistance is through Community Action of Greater Indianapolis. ERA is accepting applications until funds run out.

When you call, dial “1” for English and then “0” to speak with an operator. Once the operator answers you say, “Hendricks County” and then “trying to apply for ERA”.

LEGAL ASSISTANCE

Family Promise is partnering with Neighborhood Christian Legal Services to provide legal services to our clients and to the community. There are a variety of options available:

  • Legal Assistance by Vee via the legal kiosk at the Resource Center (238 N. Vine Street, Plainfield) every other Thursday. Vee cannot give advice, she can help complete and file paperwork. Call Vee at 463-226-3062 or email vee@familypromisehendrickscounty.org to schedule an appointment (required).

 

  • Legal Clinic with an Attorney from NCLS at the Resource Center (238 N. Vine Street, Plainfield) on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Focus on eviction expungements, evictions, and other housing related legal matters. Call Vee at 463-226-3062 or email vee@familypromisehendrickscounty.org to schedule an appointment (required).

 

  • NCLS Expungement Help Desk: Available for a limited number of new walk-in visitors (first-come, first-served) on Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 9:00am to 4:00pm. They are located at 3115 Southeastern Ave on the 3rd floor of the Aequitas office building on the Community Justice Campus (CJC) in Indianapolis.

 

  • NCLS Consult with a Lawyer Program: An attorney will provide counsel and advice only. Walk-ins are welcome, and it is first come first served. Available the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00am until 12:00pm at the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic.
