Family Promise Host Organizations end homelessness in our community by providing a home to our to homeless families while they work towards sustainable stability. We are so grateful for each volunteer in every one of our hosts! This is how you END homelessness!
The host organizations are the backbone of Family Promise – providing warm meals, housing and support services for families experiencing homelessness.
During the evening and overnight hours, our residential families are at a host church or organization, with volunteers. Our families are not required to have a faith or religious affiliation. Our network of churches encompasses several denominations and worship is not required. While we work with the faith community, we are not faith-based. All of the guest families go to the same host church, but each family has their own room and each person has their own cot. Transportation to and from the host church is provided. At the host church, families eat dinner in a community setting with volunteers and other guest families. The host also provides breakfast, lunch and snack foods for families. Our network stretches across Hendricks County to 25 host and support churches. We are a new church each week.
We welcome volunteers of all ages! Below are some of the volunteer activities at the host organizations.
– Cooking and/or hosting dinner from 5PM to 8PM
– Spending the evening with the families visiting, tutoring kids or playing games
– Sleeping overnight in the church from 8PM to 6:30AM
– Coordinating children’s crafts and activities
– Donating needed supplies for the host week
– Setting up and breaking down guest families’ rooms
